Course Policies#

Your final grade is based on the exam. Bonus points can improve your grade, as described below.

Exam Format#

The exam type for all DTU courses is described in the course base (02002 and 02003). For both courses, the exam is a 4-hour written exam where all aids are allowed but without internet access.

This means:

  • The exam is individual and takes place on-site at DTU.

  • Exam problems are distributed digitally via the Digital Exam (DE) platform. You use your computer to solve and submit your answers.

  • You may bring all aids, either printed or digital.

  • Communicating with others or using AI tools during the exam is not allowed.

Grading#

How the exam is assessed is described in the exam instructions, found on page 2 of any previous exam, e.g., 2024_12_exam_English.pdf. Read these carefully. Your exam is scored on a scale from 0 to 100%. Bonus points may be added to this score as described below.

The exact translation from scores to grades is decided after the exam. Typically, a score of around 40% is required to pass, and scores above 90% will earn the top grades.

Bonus Points#

In every week except the first, there is an in-class quiz with 10 multiple-choice questions. If you answer at least 6 correctly, you earn 0.5% bonus points. There are 12 quizzes in total, and you can collect up to 5% bonus points.

Bonus points are added to your exam score and can help improve your grade, but only up to a 7. If your exam score already corresponds to a grade of 7 or higher, the bonus points do not change your final grade.

Bonus points are valid for three exam terms from when you take the course. That means you can use them for:

  • The winter exam immediately after the course

  • The summer exam that follows

  • The winter exam the next year

After this, your bonus points expire, regardless of whether you have attempted the exams or not. If you retake the course, you can earn new bonus points. If you have valid bonus points from both last year and the current year, we use the higher of the two. We do not combine the two results, so you cannot supplement last year’s quizzes with only a few from this year.
